About Me

Over 20 years experience of working in Older Adult Psychiatry

Dr Carolyn Eastwood

MBChB, MRCPsych

I graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 1992 (MBChB). I completed my pre-registration year in Birmingham before travelling to Australia and working as a GP on the Gold Coast, Queensland. On my return to the UK I started working in Psychiatry in September 1994. I achieved my MRCPsych (the postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry) in 1998 and have worked exclusively in Older Adult Psychiatry since 1999. I have been on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for Old Age Psychiatry since 2002 and was appointed as a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry in 2003. I have worked in this capacity with Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust since.

I have been interested in the education and training of the next generation of Psychiatrists and have been a clinical trainer for Core (junior) and Higher (Senior) trainees. I have also been an educational supervisor for trainees where I would oversee their whole training and help guide them in gaining their competences. From 2008-2010 I was the College Tutor in East Berkshire for the trainees. I am an examiner for the Clinical Exam of the MRCPsych for the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

I have been involved in maintaining professional standards and as a trained Appraiser conduct annual Consultant appraisals which are a requirement for GMC revalidation. I am also a peer reviewer of memory clinics as part of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Memory Clinic Accreditation programme.

I am an Approved Clinician and Section 12(2) approved doctor under the Mental Health Act.

Outside of work I like to spend time with my family, read and I also love to go out for a run. I am one of the run directors at the Wycombe Rye parkrun and aim to get to parkrun every Saturday whether I am at home or away.
